Reflection Questions
1. What techniques did you learn while creating your sgraffito project?
I learned how to paint a piece as well as use specific tools to scratch out a pattern on a piece of clay. I also learned how to trace things first onto tracing paper and then how to transfer onto the clay. I also learned how to use the slab roller.
2. When looking for images, what kind of imagery were you looking for? Why did you choose the image you did? (Please go beyond "Because it looked cool"...you will not receive full credit for this answer).
I looked for images that were asymmetric and had elements of nature in them. I chose the pattern I did because I thought it would be more of a challenge and it was much more intricate then the one with the tree.
3. What was your greatest success with your sgraffito project? Why do you think you were so successful?
I think my greatest success was molding the actual shape of the plate. I think I had the most success with this because I made sure to put enough clay through the slab roller and using the plate to help me mold also helped.
4.What aspects of your sgraffito project do you think you could have improved upon? How would you go about doing this?
I think I could have improved upon my tracing because there was a lot of imperfections on my plate. I think I could improve on this by taking more time when transferring from tracing paper to clay.
5. Were you able to collaborate with more people around you to ask for help or get suggestions? If not, how could you reach out to your peers during class time?
I did not collaborate with my peers for this project. I could do more of this by talking to those around me and ask for suggestions on my piece.
6. Since the pinch pot project, did you spend time outside of class looking at other artists work? If so, which artists/where? If not, how could you start incorporating this into your daily practice?
I did not look at other artists work outside of class. I could incorporate this into my daily practice by looking at he art around the room or look at examples of a type of art online.
